Tainui Group Holdings: A Vision for the Whenua

“It feeds us, it takes care of us, without the whenua we wouldn’t survive, none of us. I’m looking at it from a global way, and with farming, that’s what it still means to me.”

These are the words of George Hopa an Ahuwhenua Trophy winner, the highest accolade in Maori Farming, talking about oneone, soil.

George Hopa’s vision for Tainui Group Holdings land, as a rich source of kai where his people can return and harvest like they used to, is why Mangatea Farm is involved with the Rere ki Uta, Rere ki Tai kaupapa.

Mangatea farm is owned by Tainui Group Holdings and is currently milking 580 cows.

Mozz Trueman (Operations Manager) invited us on farm to talk about their goals for their whenua and whānau, and their hopes for the 60Ha block included in the research trials.

Our trial farms are working with a dedicated team to assist them in their goals toward the mana and mauri of soil. Talk to [email protected] if you have any questions about your farm goals.
