About AgriSea

New Zealand's leading producer of sustainable seaweed-based solutions
for agriculture, horticulture, and personal care

Science, Technology & Global Leadership

AgriSea is New Zealand's largest investor in seaweed biostimulant research and one of the country's most advanced developers of biological and nutritional farming inputs.

We work in long-term partnerships with leading research organisations including the University of Auckland, University of Waikato, Lincoln University, AgResearch and The Bioscience Economy Institute. This research is supported by the Ministry for Primary Industries, Callaghan Innovation and the Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust, ensuring our products are grounded in robust, independent science.

Our proprietary fermentation extraction technology allows us to consistently unlock high-value bioactive compounds at commercial scale – delivering repeatable, reliable performance across soil, plant and animal applications.

AgriSea technology is now licensed internationally, enabling our global partners to produce advanced biostimulants, hybrid fertilisers and animal feed additives using our proven processes.

Designed for Commercial Farming Systems

AgriSea's supply chain is fully integrated. We oversee everything from raw material sourcing through to formulation and production. Our Paeroa manufacturing site operates as a living laboratory, giving us complete control over quality, consistency and scalability.

AgriSea products are trusted by leading farmers, growers and government-owned Pāmu farms, and are exported globally. Many of our customers are recognised industry leaders who demand measurable results, season after season.

Sustainability at AgriSea is embedded into our product design to reduce environmental impact and support regenerative farming systems.

Pushing the Boundaries of Biology

In addition to our core agricultural products, AgriSea is extracting value from our seaweed resources for future-focused biotechnology. We hold exclusive global IP for a high-performance nanocellulose hydrogel developed from our seaweed waste streams, with applications in agriculture, healthcare and advanced materials.

Across everything we do, our purpose remains clear: to combine our values, world-class science and practical innovation to deliver biological and nutritional solutions that help farmers and growers win – now, and for generations to come.

Our Journey

1992

The Discovery

AgriSea's founders, Jill Bradley and Keith Atwood, visit farms across New Zealand while on holiday and one property stands out – vibrant, disease-free and thriving, largely thanks to seaweed. They begin researching and experimenting with seaweed tonic at home and word about its efficacy quickly spreads.

1996

The Beginning

Realising the potential and untapped opportunity, Jill and Keith sell their Auckland home and start brewing seaweed commercially in Paeroa. Living in a small shop on the main street with no bathroom and no running hot water, their early research on kiwifruit orchards shows remarkable improvements in crop growth and longevity.

2001

Expansion

As demand for their products grow, AgriSea expands into an old butter factory in Paeroa, providing more space to meet the needs of farmers and growers across New Zealand.

2004

Exports Begin

AgriSea products are sent to Italy for use in viticulture. To date AgriSea has exported to Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.

2014

Bee Nutrition Launched

AgriSea discovers that seaweed bioactives can help honeybees also. Working closely with beekeepers, they develop Bee Nutrition – a specialised supplement supporting healthy, thriving hives.

2018

New Facility

AgriSea buys Paeroa's ex-freezing works which provides 5000m² of factory space along with 80,000m² of land including wetlands, riparian planting, an orchard, and room to run some sheep, cattle, and a beekeeping training school.

2020

Partnership with Farm Source

Farm Source begins stocking and selling AgriSea's range of farm nutrition products, helping raise the profile of seaweed biostimulants and AgriSea's expertise among New Zealand farmers.

2020

Fieldays Innovation Award

AgriSea is trademarked globally and receives recognition for innovation at New Zealand's premier agricultural event, validating our commitment to research-backed solutions.

2022

NZ Hi-Tech Māori Company of the Year

AgriSea is honoured as NZ Hi-Tech Māori Company of the Year. The win recognises our leadership in combining traditional values such as manaakitanga with natural systems and cutting-edge science to achieve hi-tech success that has a positive impact on our planet.

2023

Innovation

Trademarks are secured for a global license for nanocellulose, our innovative and unique high performance material made from AgriSea's current seaweed waste.

2025

New Zealand International Business Award (NZIBA) – Excellence in Sustainability

Sustainability drives all decisions at AgriSea rather than being an outcome of the decisions we make. Judges acknowledge that AgriSea is having a cultural impact and broader influence in New Zealand that extends beyond business.

2025

Nanocellulose Facility Opened

AgriSea opens a dedicated hydrogel facility at its HQ in Paeroa to produce both bleached and unbleached cellulose microsheets (CMS). This exciting area of research and development has enormous potential in the medical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.

Today

Pushing Boundaries

Our company is run by the second generation of Bradleys and employs seaweed harvesters and Area Field Consultants nationwide. AgriSea remains at the forefront of developing smart biotechnology solutions for a wide range of industries.
